"Drinking Liberally is pleased to announce a special event next Wednesday night, November 18, with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Bill Boyarsky. A 30-year writer for the Los Angeles Times and the chronicler of multiple biographies about the most fascinating figures in California political history, Boyarsky returns with "Inventing L.A.: The Chandlers and Their Times," a companion book to the acclaimed PBS documentary about the family that created and nurtured the Los Angeles Times. Along the way, the Chandlers worked to help transform Los Angeles from a sleepy little town to a city of international fame. Copies of the book, from Angel City Press, will be available for purchase. . Bill Boyarsky will join us at Drinking Liberally to talk about the Chandler's, politics, journalism and the building of City of Angels. And we'll have the usual assortment of great food, lively conservation and a healthy dose of the drink of your choice!" About Drinking Liberally: "An informal, inclusive progressive social group. Raise your spirits while you raise your glass, and share ideas while you share a pitcher. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics." www.drinkingliberall y.com Drinking Liberally Special Event w/Bill Boyarsky Wednesday, November 18 7pm-? Trip, 2101 Lincoln Blvd. (@Grant, between Pico and Pearl) street parking available and Big Blue Bus accessible Great food available on site Sylvia

Organizers are a couple of people I know. The protest will last from 5-7pm, after which the group will go to the nearby TGIF's for appetizers. (If you can't make the protest, come to happy hour anyway :) The photo is of the event last month. See description below: "Near HQ for Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Health Net and others. This will be a positive and fun demonstration not an angry one. No LAPD permit needed because we will not march (we checked with them.) No Parks and Recreation permit needed since we will not use a megaphone. We will have a soapbox though for anyone who wants to speak. We plan on holding the Single Payer Happy Hour on the last Friday of every month." Hi all...The John Dean talk has been called off for tomorrow. See below. I am game to still meet for dinner and talk about health care and politics in general if you wish. We have 7 folks signed up to meet at 5 PM at Hamburger Hamlet on Van Nuys Blvd. for dinner, but since we are not going to go to the State Bldg. to hear Dean, let's meet at 6 PM and linger over our food and conversation. Please let me know what you want to do.
But do respond yes or no so I am sure each of the dinner acceptances have this message since I do not have the email addresses for everyone. Folks who were going to meet us at the talk because they could not make it to dinner in time, now might be able to make it for dinner at 6 PM.
